Ridge Trail
Imagine hiking through wild roadless areas that cover thousands of acres; through magnificent ancient forest; along rushing streams inhabited by imperiled salmon revelling in vistas of spectacular mountains and coastal plains graced with towering ancient redwoods. Imagine all of this along one incredible trail.

The dream is the creation of a trail that starts in the southern Mendocino National Forest, in the Snow Mountain Wilderness Area - the origin of the cold headwaters of the mainstem of the Wild and Scenic Eel River, and stretches northward along the ridge of the North Coast Range. Over one hundred miles to the north of Snow Mountain, the North Coast Ridge Trail would connect to the largest wilderness in northwestern California, the rugged Trinity Alps.

For other exhilarating outdoor adventures check the Community Wilderness Alliance Hike Calendar for this summer's hikes into North Coast Ridge wild areas.

You can help build the North Coast Ridge Trail. If you've hiked, backpacked, fished, hunted or enjoyed any of the wild public lands along the North Coast Range, you can help make the proposed trail one of the premier outdoor experiences in northern California. If you know of a special in the southern Six Rivers or Mendocino National Forests that you think would add to the experience of those hiking the trail, let us know.

Please send a short description of one of your favorite areas, along with details of where it is and how to get there (please no more than 1 page total).
