Meet Saturday 8:00 at Cape Horn Dam to look at the Eel/Russian River water
diversion project. Drive toward Hull Mountain with views of a million acres
of Mendocino National Forest. We'll take short hikes into potential wilderness
areas, car camping under the stars. For those wishing to camp Friday evening

September 10 -- Chanchellula Potential Wilderness Addition
This is a four mile round trip hike and relatively easy. Chanchellula
mountain, with its old growth forests gives us a birds eye view of the
area. This land had special significance to the local natives and is embodied
in their creation story. Meet at the Hayfork Fair grounds 3 hrs East of
Eureka or 1 1/2 hours West of Redding at 9:30 AM. Leader David She'om

Sept 15 -- Mad River Buttes PW
Only one and a half hours from Arcata, Mad River Buttes offers beautiful
white fir forests, dramatic geology and great views over central Humboldt
County. Meet at Arcata Safeway parking lot 8:30 am. Leader Nancy Ihara 707-442-1676
Sept 15, 16 -- Trinity Alps Wilderness Additions PW
We will walk with respect in areas rich with Native American History.
Activists have been defending these roadless areas for decades, let's

October 6, 7 -- Red Mountain Day Hike or Backpack
This part of the South Fork Eel River Source PW has red serpentine soils
that produce rare plants and unusual vegetation. The entire hike is on BLM
public land. Very steep 2 hour climb to a rolling plateau with great views
of the King Range, Lassics, Yolla Bollies. Backpackers must make reservations.
Meet Friends of the Eel River in Garberville 8am. Friday night pre-outing

October 13, 14 -- Main Stem Eel River and Snow Mountain Additions
Carcamp and Day Hikes
Meet Saturday 8:00 at Cape Horn Dam to look at the Eel/Russian River water
diversion project, then to Bloody Rock trailhead to hike into the beautiful
Skeleton Glade portion of the Snow Mountain PWA with its dramatic history
and ancient Native American trade routes. Explore big meadows, varied forests
and glades of wildflowers. Gentle elevation change. Car camp at the trailhead.
Sunday we will hike into the Bear Creek potential addition to Snow Mountain.
